MacLeod Fiddlers
This talented group of young Glengarry musicians have been playing together for the past several years and have evolved from the MacLeod School of Fiddling under the direction of Ian MacLeod (father of Ashley).
Locally, they have performed for concerts, dances, nursing homes and charities as well as taking an active role in the famous Glengarry Highland Games. They not only excel in their music, but they are all top students academically, love sports, and take an active role in their communities.
Despite their young age, these fiddlers play with the maturity and strength of seasoned veterans. The boundaries of Glengarry opened up for them when East of the Hebrides Entertainment invited them to perform at the Mid-Winter Scottish & Irish Festival in Philadelphia. They were an instant hit, and have been asked to perform again in successive years.
A great highlight for the MacLeod Fiddlers came in 2004 when they travelled to Cape Breton and immersed themselves in the musical mores of the island, performing at the Festival of Cape Breton Fiddling at St. Ann's Gaelic College.
In December of 2005, the MacLeod Fiddlers launched their debut CD entitled Ceilidh Time ("kay-lee", Gaelic word for musical gathering).
In 2007, director Ian MacLeod was inducted into the Glengarry Celtic Music Hall of Fame. A proud moment for all of the MacLeod Fiddlers!
Ceilidh Time
No matter what time of day it is, whenever you hear a couple of fiddles striking up a tune, the sound of the pibroch, the clatter of dancing shoes, or a gaelic song, you can be sure it's Ceilidh Time in Glengarry, a predominantly Scottish county in the easternmost corner of Ontario.
This recording exemplifies the unique style of fiddling that can be found in Glengarry. The tunes are all played with enthusiasm and youthful energy guaranteed to lift your spirits.
Ashley MacLeod provides the piano accompaniment on this recording.
